Avon Freight were established in the late 1970’s and have been growing consistently ever since. In 2009 new purpose-built warehouse facilities were built and the company developed to a level where professional advice was required to set the site up to ensure fully efficient safety compliance. In addition to this, Avon Freight were in need of a safety management system to ensure policies and procedures were implemented for further growth going forward.
Scope of Work
An initial programme of safety audits were implemented to identify areas where operations, both physically on the ground and with supporting paperwork, were not fulfilling safety regulations. From these audits, actions were identified and clear responsibilities and time scales set. Actions covered all aspects of the business from establishing safe walkways and one way systems throughout the site; to updating risk assessments and training staff. Developing this all at once meant we were able to keep costs and time constraints low!
Action and Results
A practical and effective safety management system has been set up and is maintained by Avon Freight and WA Management working as a team. We have been able to aid the development of safety culture within Avon Freight meaning all members of staff, from the cleaners to the MD, participate in ensuring the workplace is safe for all. This is supported by a proactive safety committee which meets monthly to ensure all aspects of safety are addressed.
