Scope of Work
Avon Freight were established in the late 1970’s and have been growing consistently ever since. In 2009 new purpose-built warehouse facilities were built and the company developed to a level where professional advice was required to set the site up to ensure full safety compliance. In addition to this Avon were in need of a safety management system to ensure policies and procedures were implemented for further growth going forward.
An initial programme of safety audits were implemented to identify areas where operations, both physically on the ground and with supporting paperwork, were not fulfilling safety regulations. From these audits, actions were identified and clear responsibilities and time scales set. Actions covered all aspects of the business from establishing safe walkways and one way systems throughout the site to updating risk assessments and training staff.
Case study Result
A practical and effective safety management system has been set up and is maintained by Avon Freight and WA Management working as a team. Slowly but surely a safety culture has developed within Avon Freight where all members of staff from the cleaners to the MD participate in ensuring the workplace is safe for all. This is supported by a proactive safety committee which meets monthly to ensure all aspects of safety are addressed.
